Doug
the story of a tree
The book
Doug is a Douglas Fir tree in the mountains near Port Renfrew, BC. When the surrounding forest was logged, Doug was left standing. Shortly afterwards, the tree became known within the environmental and conservation communities as “Big Lonely Doug.”
The book is written from the perspective of Doug and the other creatures living in the forest. It serves as a tribute to the diversity, beauty, and natural magic found when spending time in a coastal rainforest. From the tiniest insect to the towering trees, each inhabitant has a tale filled with mystery, drama, joy, desperation, love, friendship, and survival.
I hope you find this story enjoyable, and that it inspires many conversations when you share it.
